The Songs That Told Me To Stay: a memoir

This book follows me, Mieraye, on my journey from a childhood darkened by a father imprisoned for unspeakable crimes and and an abuse ridden life with my mother, and all the trials and tribulations that led me to elite spaces doctored by the 1% to sleeping on sidewalks and staircases suffering from addiction. As a 23 year old Black woman who has already surmounted much more than any should have to, I put an emphasis on how my experience in psychoanalysis played a significant role in my survival. Where the odds and statistics were against me staying alive, analysis, therapy, God, and resilience kept breath in my lungs and a beat in my heart. Shaped by the songs I honored throughout my life that gave me strength, The Songs That Told Me To Stay is a read that every reader will benefit from, and my purpose of writing it was exactly that.
